Online lecture on industrial policy in the United States

The Finnish Centre for New Economic Analysis (Uuden talousajattelun keskus) and Demos Helsinki invite you to online Zoom lecture on industrial policy in the United States on Tuesday 28 May 2pm-3:30pm (EEST).

Industrial policy has been at the heart of President Biden`s economic policy agenda in the United States. The Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 included large-scale tax incentives and public investments to foster the production of electric vehicles and renewable energy. The Chips and Science Act of 2022 contained funding related to the production and R&D of semiconductors. Moreover, the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law of 2021 authorized spending to upgrade public physical and digital infrastructure.

What can we learn about the recent trajectory of industrial policy in the United States?  Where might US industrial policy be heading after the presidential election? The online Zoom guest lecture by Dr. Isabel Estevez will address green industrial policy, public investment, and the democratic rootedness of industrial policy. Estevez is the deputy director of Industrial Policy and Trade at the Roosevelt Institute. The Roosevelt Institute is a New-York based progressive think tank.

Estevez`s work combines her academic background in institutional and development economics and years of experience advising governments and advocacy organizations in the design of transformative economic policies. Estevez hold a Ph.D. and M.Phil. from the University of Cambridge.

Register for the online lecture through this link. We will send participants a Zoom link before the event.
